Blogging Gals

Hi all!
So I got some adorable gifts in my Blogging Gals goodie-bag with so many gorgeous products! I thank Resultime by Collin Paris, Lush, Boutique and Laimon Fresh!
I love Laimon Fresh as it is 100% natural ingredients and I support anything with natural ingredients! The name of the drink is called "sparkling lemon-lime & mint drink". If you like sparkling water and so forth, this would be a good alternative once in a while to have! I have used Resultime last night and the products smell absolutely gorgeous and are amazing. I have sensitive skin and these products suit lovely! Boutique's little gifts are amazing, and the colours are just stunning, I love the texture and they are great value for money! And lastly, Lush! What can I say about lush? Such creamy, soft, gorgeous smelling products and I will always recommend these products to anyone!

Thank you again to all the organisations which were kind enough to send us these products! They are lovely!

Skin-Care

Hi all!
Firstly, this blog post is a little different from my usual health/fitness posts as I got requested by a few people to do a skin-care blog post. However, I actually realised that my skin has changed over my weight-loss and my clean eating.
I have eczema which most of you will know of, and it just causes my skin to be dry (it's always worse in the winter, with these strong winds!) and it used to be really, really bad and everything the doctor gave me made it maybe slightly better, but never enough to have results which were beneficial for my skin. When I started to eat clean, drinking water/green tea and exercising, my skin also improved. It did not get rid of my eczema, however, it made it drastically better! Most of my body now is eczema free except for a few places and sometimes dry areas, which I am so happy with! I know eczema will always come up, but it's how you treat it (with what you eat and what you use on your skin). I know a lot of people out there suffer with eczema, so I thought I would share some products that work really well with me alongside a healthy-eating/drinking lifestyle. Plus I want to share some products that I have gotten recently and some lovely lipsticks which I would recommend any woman! (My face is combination to dry... I can have sometimes dry areas, especially due to the weather, but right now? It's lovely and soft!)

Skin-Care Recommendations

These are a few of my products that I will be talking about I these are the links on where to purchase or view the products I discuss:

I use all Elemis, as just for a pesrsonal preference as it is the only skin-care brand to genuinely agree with my skin! I have used so many others like Clinique, Clarins, Liz Earle and so on.

Elemis Lime and Ginger Salt Glow
I love this product! It smells firstly amazing and the fact the scrub is combined with nourishing oils makes the product near perfect! If you do have really sensitive skin on your body (I don't.. my sensitive skin is usually on my hands or face/neck areas), I would not recommend this product as it maybe a bit too harsh! However if you have normal to dry skin, I believe this would be perfect. It leaves your skin so soft and the oil residue left on your skin after is lovely and conditioning for your skin. There is also just a Salt version of this product (but a little bit different), which I have not tried, but it is fairly new (end of 2013), and it is meant to be another good product. However, I do not think I will change from this product for a while! It helps my eczema that I have come up, as it gets rid of the dead skin cells and leaves my skin feeling a hundred times better. It is not too harsh for my skin luckily and I use it once a week or sometimes once every two weeks just to give my skin a little bit of a pamper!
I recommend this product for all skin types, but if you have really dry skin or bad eczema, I perhaps would lean towards another product.

 Elemis Tranquil Touch Body Cream
I absolutely adore this body cream. I spent months (from summer time to December) looking for this product, but every time I went to order it or went into a spa, it has sold out! It so light and hydrating! It is amazing for eczema. Elemis is really good in the sense that their products are very natural and therefore are so kind to people who suffer with all types of skin problems. This body cream helps my dry areas and it smells incredible! I will have to reorder this before it runs out! The only problem I have with this product is that it does not come in a larger bottle! It only comes in 150ml, however it is very worth it and like all Elemis products, a little goes a long way! It will last you a good while.

 Frangipani Monoi Shower Cream
This is my favourite shower cream (I have tried a few of Elemis)! It smells amazing, it makes your skin so soft, and I do not have a bad word to say about it. The texture of the product is light and again, goes a long way. After constant use of this product on my skin, it has made my skin constantly softer as the months go by. It really is a good investment especially if you have dry areas on your body, or you just want your skin to feel even softer then it is! This would suit all skin types.

Pro-Radiance Hand and Nail Cream
As I have previously mentioned I have dry skin/eczema on my hands. This cream is literally a god-send for anyone who has skin conditions like mine! This cream hydrates, lasts, a little goes a long way and it makes your hands visibly better in a matter of seconds. Not only does it make your hands visibly better straight away, but it lasts! I have only got this at Christmas time, but it really is amazing and I will definitely re-invest in this product when I have ran out! If you have normal skin, I think there are probably other products which will suit you as well! But this product is a good all-rounder for all skin types.
Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm
This is my favourite product by Elemis. It is insane. It is so gorgeous. It lasts a long time, the consistency is lovely, it is light, it's hydrating, my skin looked visibly improved after only a couple of uses, it smells heavenly... The list goes on and on. For my skin in the winter, this is a god-send, especially from the wind and cold weather! I use this at night time (I have a day cleanser), and it's the perfect product to use! I leave it on for ten minutes and after my skin genuinely feels so much cleaner! It lasts such a long time too.. My last one lasted me literally 5-6 months! It would be a bit heavy for normal-combination skin for daily use, however if you suffer from eczema, dry patches, etc, this would suit you perfectly for night use! I was told by a spa-therapist not to use this in the day! Honestly, GO BUY THIS PRODUCT, YOU WILL NEVER, EVER REGRET IT.

Elemis Maximum Moisture Day Cream
I have sadly nearly ran out of this, but this is a really good
product by Elemis as I do suffer from dry patches and this product completely eliminates this! It does what it says on the packaging if I'm honest! It's a good conditioner, I believe it would work for all skin types as the cream is light and hydrating but not heavy whatsoever! Again, another Elemis product I can not fault even after months of using it and it is definitely a product I will have to repurchase in the future.

Elemis Rehydrating Ginseng Toner
Toners close your pores when you are cleansing and so on (as you all probably know!) so I believe it is the most important part of the whole skin-care routine. This product is amazing. I have had it for six months and yes, that's how much is left! I use it daily, and it's magical, you do not need much and it covers your face (really, really really good value for money, like I believe all the products are due to how long they last and the quality you are receiving!).
I used toners in the past which actually made my dry patches even worse! It was such a shame! But this one doesn't, again, it does what it says on the packaging and it rehydrates my skin. I will also repurchase this product when it eventually runs out!! This is definitely one of my favourite Elemis products. I think it would suit all skin types, however, there are more Elemis products which can suit combination skin and so on maybe a bit better? But I am not a professional! This is all my opinion!
Again, I would recommend this product to anyone!

New Products

Due to my skin improving and not having new make-up for a while, I thought I would try MAC! I have had a few MAC products before, but not a full make-up set, so I thought I would try them. There are so many reviews of MAC out there, but if you want to know my opinion of the products after I've used them for a little while, just email me on fitnesswithluc@hotmail.com as I do suffer with dry patches sometimes as I have previously mentioned! My colour is NW20, which is a pink undertone and is one of the lightest ones you can get (the lightest in NW is 15 so I am quite light). I wanted also a nude-pink lipstick, I do not suit full nudes as my skin-tone makes me look so washed out it is unreal! I wish I could, if I was naturally a bit darker maybe, but it is how it goes! I found a beautiful Nude Pink satin MAC lipstick (MAC lipsticks are amazing, I do have a few already). I do not like full matte finishes, as they can be a bit drying, so satin is perfect as it is imbetween as I do not like the glossy look on me either (I am picky!). I also picked up the powder blush which was recommended by my lovely lady Gracie - UGLYFACEOFBEAUTY and she was right! The lady in the store showed me what it looked like on my skin and it is so natural and gorgeous! I like natural colours and it is so beautiful!

The Products I got were:
Studio Fix Fluid NW20
Pro Longwear Concealer NW20
Satin Lipstick SNOB
Studio Fix Powder NW20
Powder Blush Harmony

Below are the photos of my products! If you want to know anything more about how I get on with them due to my skin-type, please do let me know! However, I know these products have been reviewed a lot in the past! With skin-care, make sure you are eating right and drinking enough water and green tea! Junk food has an affect on even how you look! Trust me! Eat right, and see a difference in your skin as well as your health! But I think it is also helpful for you all to know what skin-care I use to help my other issues!

Weight Loss Changed Me

So I wrote a little section on my Tumblr today on how my weight-loss journey has changed me as a person (no edit, just raw thoughts), and I thought I would share it with all of my bloggers:
I used to be a size 12, although my bone-structure is not naturally a size 12 (as in my hips are not a size 12). I was over-weight and I ate anything I wanted! I ate junk food if I wanted to all day, (as an example).
One day, I realised I had to change. I had to be healthier and happier in my body not only for how I appear, but for my general health, as it came to a time where I could not look at myself properly in the mirror and I felt so sluggish and ill. I wanted to be happier in the skin I am in.
So I did it, I made the change and over the last seven months, it has been hard work but I have enjoyed every single moment. I am so much happier within myself then I have ever been before. I have found a love in health and fitness which I want to carry on pursuing potentially into a career. I have lost 2st 10lbs (approx.). I love weight-lifting. I love being strong. I love clean eating. I love having progress on a weekly basis. Not only have I become externally stronger, but internally, as weight loss is an internal as well as external battle, but not only that I have learnt that there is always going to be something to improve about myself and I will embrace that. There will always be something I want to improve on my body, and there will always be something to be improved in my mind. I stay positive, I will be kind to others, I will support and most importantly, I will be fair to myself and sometimes, others will not like that. But this is my life, and I will be fair to what I want to do or desire. My mistakes are mine and I will always do what I want to do in the end. Do not live your life through someone else’s expectations.
I can not control the actions of others, but I can control myself, so I will always try and be positive and I will always be improving myself, internally and externally. I have focused on myself and it’s allowed me to love who I am and try and be an example to others that you are strong enough. You will always grow, develop and learn and that is the beauty of life.
I inspire to inspire other people, and my weight loss journey is not only about losing weight and becoming smaller, stronger and leaner… it’s about a woman who carried on growing as a person in the process of losing weight and continuously making herself into a better person. I am not the same person I was a year ago.
The message of my story? Do what makes you happy. Life is about being happy. I was not always happy, and I sometimes did things that others wanted me to do, instead of doing it for myself. I have learnt that is wrong. If you’re not happy, change. Do what you want to do. Love yourself enough to respect yourself and your own desires and wishes. If you’re not happy in life, what is the point? So societies and other individuals expectations? Fuck them. You don’t need to live by anyone else’s expectations and opinions but your own.
Be fair, be confident, be proud, be happy, be beautiful and be kind. Be the difference. Live by example, and be the example you will want to show your children someday. Fitness to me is more then what you do in a gym.

My Journey So Far

Hi everyone.
Due to having such a positive response from my weight-loss progress photo this morning, I decided to write about my journey! As well as sharing some amazing news that I am now apart of BloggingGals and I have a YouTube channel!

Before I started my health and fitness journey:

In the summer of 2014 (around May-June period) this was me.
I am 19 (nearly 20 now), I was a size 12, I weighed 12st9lbs, however I knew what to wear to make me look slimmer. I didn't work out, I walked to university, but I did not attend a gym or do any extra exercises to stay fit or healthy. I ate anything I wanted, literally anything I wanted at any time, I had no boundaries on what I ate, as I believe I was in denial on being over-weight and how I looked.

One day however, I ate a Ben and Jerry's after a domino's and I will never forget the feeling I had. I felt absolutely rubbish. I looked in the mirror and I finally saw the unhealthy, unfit girl. As soon as I came to the realisation, I got into the mind-set of being healthier and losing weight. I emptied the junk from my freezer, fridge and cupboards and started fresh! I went shopping and brought food which was fresh and lean, this included vegetables, chicken, fruit and eggs.

Along side of eating better, I was being in contact with one of my friends Paige about a product called JuicePlus+ (please click on the link to a blog-post of mine which I wrote about JuicePlus+ and the programme which I originally used. I also have many other blog posts which speak about what JuicePlus+ is). JuicePlus+ for me was perfect as the extra encouragement of being on a diet plan and bridging what I should eat to what I do eat was just what I needed. Not only did JuicePlus+ and a healthier lifestyle encourage me to lose weight, but it made me feel better within myself. I woke up earlier, my skin improved and I felt happier in my own skin. I still use JuicePlus+ today as my pre-workout shake for early morning workouts, as it has many different uses as described on previous blog-posts. I would recommend JuicePlus+ to anyone who is serious about losing weight, as if used correctly, you should not gain weight back (I've lost even more fat since being off JuicePlus+). I will support this product until I die, as it is the product which gave me that extra boost into what I wanted.

Not only was I eating clean and on JuicePlus+, I also exercised 5-6 times a week at a local gym. I got to be friends with a Personal Trainer, which invited me to his classes which involved insanity type workouts and weight focused workouts. These classes for me were incredible as they motivated me and made me work hard, which made me constantly see results! In the end, I decided to take on a personal trainer and start having a proper exercise routine designed, along with hour sessions three times per week. I learnt a lot from my personal trainer, as he was also a nutritionist, so he gave me extra knowledge on food as I had already started to research about health and fitness.

After the summer, I went back to university, where I carried on exercising and eating clean (with one cheat per week). I carried on losing weight, becoming smaller and more toned. Fat-loss takes time, as I did have a lot of fat (as shown in my previous photograph). Over this time, my PT was still giving me advice over Facebook and giving me my routines! As I went back home over Christmas, I learned even more knowledge and exercises as my strength is building (which tones) and I started to change my diet. Due to the exercise routines which my PT designed, I eat carbs three times a day (however in small portions) and I am still losing fat and getting toned! In order to be toned, you have to allow your muscles to repair and giving them good food to repair them with, making them stronger! If I did not have carbs, I would be starving and eventually pass-out! The more muscle you have, more calories are required to maintain the muscle.

This is me today - 29th January 2014:

I took this photo this morning before the gym!

I am very proud of my weight loss so far and I will like to go into competitions in about a year or so - when I am leaner! I am not saying every day has been easy, I have also made mistakes, which I have described a few on my YouTube Channel! We all make mistakes and we all fail, it's the only way you improve and succeed. I have had days where I have felt back to where I was last summer, but you have to push through them days and realise that it's just a bad day, get up, go to the gym, eat clean, drink water and you'll feel better (and I always do).
Look at your body with a positive attitude and your body will follow. Learn to love who you are and be happy to improve yourself, as we all can and I do

My Top 10 Tips

I know it can be hard for beginners to get into the "motion" of a healthy lifestyle and break out of a bad habit, therefore I thought I would put a post on my top ten tips for beginners! (and a few for regular gym-goers)

1. Go check out the gym you wish to go to.
Look at the equipment.
Do you like the atmosphere of the gym?
Are the staff friendly and seem to give good motivation?
Make sure you have a gym you look forward to go to, and not dread because of a bad atmosphere or specific people. You should go to the gym for you, but make sure you are comfortable there to work your best!

3. Look for healthy recipes.
One thing I get quite often is "I don't like healthy food", but I see that as narrow-minded. You have a number of spices, meats and vegetables to choose from to put together and try out! So look online for inspiration for healthy meals! Focus on chicken and fish recipes with vegetables, look for the different spices you can put in for flavour!

2. Write a shopping list.
Write down your old shopping list (where you may buy more unhealthy foods) and write a new one. Cut out the bad products (frozen and processed especially) and write down fresh ingredients. Replace potato with sweet potato, rice for brown rice and pasta for wholewheat pasta! And so on! Make sure you have a variety of fruit and vegetables! And replace soda's with green tea, water and fresh foods. Restrict how much juice you have, as juice is full of sugar! Buy the fruit and get the nutrients naturally! But limit yourself to one carton of juice per one week.

          3. Go shopping!
Yes! You heard me, go to get some lovely gym-wear! Gym-wear is my favourite clothing! The colours, the comfort! Girls, make sure you get a sports bra too! They are vital for us, plus extremely comfortable, you will never want to go back to normal bras (I promise you that). Go get comfy gym-wear, so you get more motivated to go to the gym!                                                                                                                                                                      Take a moment and look to the left... she's inspiration on her own... I bet people told her she "couldn't" and look at her! She's beating all of you who are sitting on your sofa (just like CT Fletcher says! He has a video where a over-weight lady wants to change, she dead-lifts and he states: "she got more balls then you punks sitting on the couch talking shit will ever have" Amen to her and to her making a change! Search I'm on YouTube! He's amazing - I will put a link at the bottom of this post!). Never, ever criticise someone who goes to the gym or hits the streets and tries. Because she will be and is the inspiration.

4. Research
Research on the web for tips on nutrition to suit what you wish to do (as in calorie in-takes and so on). Some guys who wish to bulk will need to consume a lot more calories then someone who wishes to lose weight! Plus they will be doing other exercises to do with their training. If you wish to lose weight, research the best equipment and exercises for you to do! I would advise to have a personal trainer, but I know they're expensive! So research! Research! Research!

5. Make sure your form is correct
Even if you go to the gym on your own, make sure your form is good! Ask someone who works there (preferably a personal trainer) just to make sure your form is good... I'm sure they would not mind! If your too "proud" to ask, I'm sorry but you're only hurting yourself and hurting your own results! Be open to be criticism as we all make mistakes and need improvements sometimes! So leave your ego at the door and be open to someone correcting you or showing you another exercise! We all are there to grow and get results, and with that comes learning!

6. Always have a plan of what you're going to do in the gym
Always make sure you know what you're doing at the gym on that day, or at least have an idea! This is so you won't be wandering around wondering what to do! I exercise certain muscle groups each time I'm at the gym. For example one day I'll do legs and the next I'll do back and biceps! Make sure you have a plan of what you're doing and what equipment you will be using on that day. Also make sure you know what cardio you are doing that day, what is your goal? Are you doing interval training? Are you running to a specific km/mile? Or specific calorie-loss? Have a plan, so you will not waste time in the gym! It's not how long you spend in the gym, it is what you do.

7. Eat before the gym & eat after!
This is something that is not said enough! Nutrition is important! So if you go to the gym early morning? Have a banana before you go! Kick-start your metabolism! And after have breakfast (e.g porridge, no added sugar! with berries). I also have protein, but for beginners you may want to train for two or so months to see what you feel comfortable with and make your own decisions on protein, however it does help me, but is not necessary! As Elliott Hulse states as well! The body is capable enough to repair muscles itself, so protein is not vital but it can help you! However, always make sure you eat. Keep your nutrition correct and your results will come!

8. Drink enough water
Drink constantly throughout the day! Water is essential in your diet! So make sure your hydrated throughout the day and it'll also help you with your workouts, as you won't be dehydrated! Always have a bottle of water with you!

9. Gym partner?
Some people say they find it better without a gym partner, some people like having a gym partner... me? I say, it depends what kind of gym partner you have. If you have a gym partner which tries as hard as you, I believe you will get along just fine! My gym partner has similar goals to mine and she works as hard as I do... therefore we have an amazing gym-relationship, plus she's one of my closest friends, so it does indeed help! However, make sure you do not become reliant on your gym partner, I see this too many times! Make sure your comfortable going to the gym, as your gym partner will not always be able to go with you at the same times due to lifestyles and so on! So make sure you do not become reliant and your just as comfortable and try as hard on your own!

10. Never give up
It's common that people give up when they do not see results straight away... I'm sorry, but fitness is a lifestyle! You can't expect to diet and then go back to eating how you used to! If you want to be healthier, and you want results, your lifestyle will have to change in some ways (it obviously differs for different people)! One way to lose weight is to cut out all the pre-produced rubbish, alcohol and processed foods! Focus on clean eating! Focus on yoga! Focus on breathing! Focus on living healthy! You will notice a difference in your moods due to filling your body with nutrients instead of crap! In all honesty, your results may happen relatively quickly, but they will slow down and then it becomes about your diet and your gym-routine (and changing it so it's not the same all the time!!). So do not expect all your weight to drop off! It will slow down! But then it becomes about your performance and consistency.
But never give up... You will never regret going to the gym. You will never regret healthy meals. You will never regret trying.

You will regret not going to the gym, not eating healthy and not trying!

A good video to watch is by Elliott Hulse, and he explains it better then I do why it's essential we look after ourselves! Elliott Hulse along with others such as Antoniette Pacheco (my idol), are incredible and are worth researching.

Home Workout

Hi all, I had someone request a blog-post on advice for home-workouts! I completely understand that not everyone can afford or make it to a gym, therefore home workouts are the only option.

Firstly, getting yourself a pair of weights would be ideal as they will help you with your results. You are able to get weights from eBay! An cheaper alternative would be ankle/wrist weights to give you a challenge, here is a link to some:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6KG-Wrist-Ankle-Weights-Exercise-Fitness-Gym-Resistance-Training-Running-New-/310803218698?pt=UK_Strength_Training&hash=item485d50c10a

If you are new to training and don't know what you can handle start with 3kg and work yourself up! There is no point buying heavier weights when you don't know if you will be able to use them properly... Your form is everything, if your form is rubbish, there is no point doing the exercise.

To start with, there are many different types of cardio exercises you can do at home. These include:
- Running/Jogging
- Fast-paced walking
- Cycling
- Burpees
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_Dq_NCzj8M)
- Squat Jumps
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVaEhXotL7M)
- Mountain Climbers
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmwgirgXLYM)
- Jumping Jacks

There are many other types of cardio exercises available to you! However, I find the most effective for me is running, to build stamina and to lose calories. You may hate to run, so start off by doing fast-paced walking for 3-5 minutes and start to jog and build up your stamina! For example:
Day 1 - Run for 8 minutes
Day 2 - Run for 10 minutes
Day 3 - Run for 12m 30s
Day 4 - Run for 15
That is how I built my stamina and then keep pushing yourself to improve, as soon as you hit another goal, you should be motivated to hit your next one as you can do it.
There are many other exercises online which can help you as well.

If you can not find yourself a pair of weights, it maybe ideal to use body-weight exercises. These include:
- Push-ups
- Crunches
- Bear Crawls
- Plank
- Lunges
- Squats

I could do a huge list of exercises which you could do! However, I have found an amazing website which has 50 bodyweight exercises for you to do (with description).
http://greatist.com/fitness/50-bodyweight-exercises-you-can-do-anywhere
Do 3-4 sets of 8-12 reps for each exercise (well, that's a guideline anyway and how I set out my own workouts).

There are also fitness videos like this on YouTube to vary your workouts:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcN37TxBE_s

Alternatively, you can do exercises such as yoga for weight loss:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ci3na6ThUJc
I've personally done this specific one and I found it amazing! It is a good break-up from your normal routines and it is a very relaxing way to work out. I personally do this on my "rest day" for 10-15 minutes to stretch and relax, not specifically for weight loss. However, yoga is amazing for weight loss and flexibility.

If you're finding it tough to start working out, maybe ask a friend to join in too! Therefore you can motivate one another and each others progress! Also it'll help you with having somebody to spot if you have not got the correct form. It is important to do the exercises properly because otherwise you will not get the benefit of it! Yes you will find it tough, but you will see results! But remember, results do not happen over night... So please be patient. It is very frustrating to see when people are too impatient. Everyones results differ depending on age, if you have worked out before, stamina, metabolism, etc. So please keep in mind all these factors when you start!
Work hard, improve your performance and your results will follow

My last piece of advice would be, when you find the home-workouts are being to limit you, it maybe time to think of going to a gym. I used to to home workouts, however, now I need specific equipment and heavy weights for me to do my workouts. Therefore, I would advise to always be on the look out for cheap deals or special offers for gyms. Gyms are usually very good, as they have personal trainers which will advise you. My gym has a policy when you sign up you have free 5 personal training sessions for 30 minutes (which I think is very good), therefore look into gyms and look for these types of deals. However, if you can not to that right now, start going on to some of the links I've suggested and searching YouTube/the web! You'll feel amazing, I promise.

Also, remember, you will never grow if you're comfortable... you have to get uncomfortable to progress.

Weekly Diet & Why Cheats Are Important

Nutrition is the most important factor to losing weight, getting "lean" or "toned" and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. So I want to start this post by saying, going to the gym is not enough for you to lose weight, tone and to keep it off. To lose weight/tone, you will have to come the realisation that your nutrition is the most important part, therefore you can not overlook it and you will have to change your lifestyle to a healthy one. Saying that, a cheat or treat once a week is also important, for many different reasons! Plus leading a healthy lifestyle is vital which impacts your mood, skin and general health!
Fuel your body with the correct foods, for maximum results in the gym and for your body. Food is not your enemy. Never, ever starve yourself!

I thought I would write a post on my weekly diets and give some tips, as I get asked quite frequently what I eat and what I would recommend! And I will also explain why I have one cheat per week, and why it's vital you do.

Weekly Diet
I eat frequently (every 3-4 hours), and this is so my metabolism never slows down and my nutrition is high. This is an example of what I eat and drink in a day and the times I have it:

Meal 1 (7AM)
Food: Porridge with rice milk and water.
Drink: A protein shake mixed with water and a green tea.

Meal 2 (10-11AM)
Food: Prawn salad with a banana, apple or orange.
Drink: I constantly drink water throughout the day, I usually drink 3-5 litres a day.

Meal 3 (3-4PM)
Food: Low fat yoghurt with another piece of fruit (either apple or orange) or a JuicePlus+ shake.
Drink: Water and a green tea.

Meal 4 (5-6PM)
Food: Chicken/Fish with spinach, sweetcorn, peas, carrots and herbs and spices (e.g chilli and mixed herbs) I do usually stick to 4 different vegetables and change what I have daily, for variety.
Drink: Water and a green tea.

Meal 5 (8-9PM)
Food: Grapes
Drink: A green tea.

Plus:
A post-workout protein shake mixed with water.

I constantly try and change the vegetables I buy weekly to add variety into my diet, which allows different nutrients into my body. The key to nutrition is variety and clean fresh produce! I also drink a lot of water which is vital, as it enables our liver to do it's job, and it flushes waste and toxins out of your body . Also the more water you drink, the more water your body releases, which means drinking plenty of water keeps your body from retaining water. Consequently, drinking water is good for you externally and internally, as water is also very good for your skin and it can affect how you look! I also drink a lot of green tea, which has many so many health benefits! These benefits include: boosts metabolism, aids in weight loss, clears skin, prevents heart disease, prevents cancer, low caffeine level, lowers cholesterol and contains the highest level of EGCG which is a powerful antioxidant.

A Tip When Food Shopping:
Do not buy frozen produce, always go for clean and fresh!
Frozen is not as good for you as fresh produce is!

Why Are Having "Cheats" Or "Treats" Important?

Firstly, I don't necessarily have a whole cheat "day", but a cheat meal or snacks and so on! My cheat days are usually on a Sunday, so I can start fresh on the Monday.
There are many benefits to cheat days! Firstly, when I plan a cheat day for my diet, I have one once a week. I personally look forward to "rewarding" myself in a certain sense for my hard work in the week. However the most important thing is to not go overboard, for example, eat junk food all day long!  If you don't have a "cheat" or "treat" day to look forward to, there's more danger of binge eating! and getting into bad habits such as crash dieting which are so bad for you. Also knowing that you live a healthy lifestyle and can still enjoy unhealthy foods sometimes will make your "diet" not feel like a diet and more like a healthy lifestyle. Plus, feeling guilty from having treats is something I do often! However, there is no need to feel guilty at all, as balance is important in everyones lifestyle. Plus rewarding myself and for once not being too strict on myself helps me be even more determined to work hard for the week ahead.

I have done research into cheat days from various fitness websites and I have learnt while living a healthy lifestyle, it's likely that you have low muscle glycogen levels, which affects performance! However, that's also not an excuse to cheat too often. A cheat meal has the calories and carbohydrates which you do not usually have, which replenishes some of these stores which in a sense "re-feeds" and will help give you more energy for your next workouts. So, on these days, you can eat brown rice, wholewheat pasta and so on as well. Therefore having a cheat meal or snack once a week can help you! and is not a reason to feel guilty.
Also! Another thing I have learnt while researching is that along with decreased muscle glycogen, there is also the "slowing of metabolism effect". Which is basically when the body senses the lower-calorie intake, and therefore lowers the amount of energy it needs to function on a daily basis which slows your metabolism. This equals in burning less calories, which makes weight loss/toning more difficult. However, when you shock your body with a high calorie intake, the body's metabolism will show an increase and you'll kick start your metabolism into gear. This helps the body get less accustomed to running on a lower calorie level and makes getting lean/losing weight easier.

Overall, it is important to make sure that you live a healthy lifestyle and fit your diet to suit you and your goals in fitness and/or health. It is also so important to not "fantasise" about cheat days and make you crave cheats even more! I see "cheats" or "treat" days as a part of my lifestyle and a little reward weekly, plus I enjoy healthy foods, so my diet is not a diet in my eyes whatsoever... It's just what I choose to eat. Having a positive mindset is just as important as having a healthy body! If you are one to dream about that junk food, maybe it is better to have cheat snacks (such as a piece of chocolate on certain days) which helps you maintain a healthy lifestyle and keep your cravings to a minimum.
